Two programs are offered. Dr. Carol North and Dr. Barry Hong (who presented at UTHSCSA in August, 2005) return to present MC-Flash Practical Front-Line Assistance for Support and Healing (P-FLASH II©),Version II, for Medical Centers. It is administered to groups of medical center professionals by a team of specially trained facilitators, the program’s format provides didactic and interactive formats using a lively animated slide presentation and case vignettes, question-and-answer sessions, and discussion breakouts. Uniquely data-based, MC-FLASH translates current and evolving disaster mental health research into practical recommendations to guide medical center personnel from the intense early post-disaster period through long-term recovery. Following logical steps through systematic decision trees, MC-FLASH delivers the necessary skills for differentiating "normal" distress from abnormal reactions and provides tools for appropriate management of these problems in different disaster time phases in the medical center setting. The second day is a train-the-trainer workshop. The intensive train-the-trainer program provides hands-on experience and guidance to prepare trainees to present the materials effectively and authoritatively.

The conference offers presentations by leaders in disaster mental health who will discuss the mental health consequences of recent disasters from Oklahoma City to Katrina. Discussion and audience participation will be encouraged.

CE credit will be offered (including an ethics presentation).

Please register for each event you wish to attend (to attend both the workshop and conference, you must register for each). If you wish CE credits, register for each activity plus the CE. For those unable to attend, a videotape of the conference will be available later.
