Biography

Colonel Lee Welker Briggs was born in Rexburg, Idaho. He graduated from Ricks College, Rexburg, Idaho, with an Associate in Science Degree in 1969 and from Brigham Young University (BYU), Provo, Utah, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1974. Upon graduation from BYU he was designated as a U.S. Army ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned into the Medical Service Corps. Colonel Briggs obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Management/Human Relations from Webster College, St. Louis, Missouri in 1980, a Master of Health Administration Degree from Baylor University, Waco, Texas in 1984 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa in 1993. He is a diplomate and Board Certified Healthcare Executive with the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Member-At-Large of the American Hospital Association and a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. In addition, he is a published author.

His military training includes the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer Basic Course and the AMEDD Officer Advanced Course. He graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia in 1986 and the Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1998.

He is currently assigned as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for the Great Plains Regional Medical Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
