Biography

A native of West Sand Lake, New York, Jeffrey A. Bashford enlisted in the Navy as a Hospitalman Recruit in September 1969. He completed boot camp and Hospital Corps "A" School in Great Lakes, Illinois and was assigned to the Naval Hospital, St. Albans, New York. Upon selection for the Navy Enlisted Nursing Education Program, he attended the State University of New York at Albany, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1977.

Captain Bashford served as staff nurse in various clinical specialty units at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1977 to 1980, and then as charge nurse of the ICU/CCU/PACU at the Naval Submarine Medical Center, Groton, Connecticut 1980 to 1984. He was then reassigned for the first of two tours in support of the Naval Education and Training Center, Newport, Rhode Island, as instructor and Company Officer at the Officer Indoctrination School. Following an eighteen-month tour as Nursing Staff Education Coordinator at Naval Hospital, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, he returned to Naval Hospital, Newport in 1987 as Division Officer, Special Care Unit and Patient Education Coordinator.

In 1989, Captain Bashford was transferred to Navy Recruiting District, Houston, Texas where he served both as Medical Programs Recruiter, and later as Officer Programs Officer in charge of all district officer programs recruiting. He was selected as the Naval Recruiting Area Seven Officer Recruiter of the Year in 1991.

From 1993 to 1995 he attended the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health Care Administration at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he earned a Master of Health Administration Degree from Baylor University. Following duty under instruction, Captain Bashford was assigned for two years as a staff analyst with the Assistant Chief for Plans, Analysis, and Evaluation, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and two years as Nurse Corps and Technical Nurse Warrant Officer Community Manager, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C.

For the three years prior to his assignment as Deputy, Navy Health Care New England Groton, he served as both the Director for Specialty Care and Senior Nurse Executive, and as one of twelve members of the Board of Directors, for the Naval Hospital, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Captain Bashford is a Certified Medical Practice Executive and member of the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He has two children, Jonathan and Kelly. He is married to the former Donna Lynn Dorough of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia.
