Biography

Colonel George P. Johnson is commander of the 78th medical group, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He is responsible for the direct medical care of 47,000 Department of Defense beneficiaries and base civilian work force of nearly 12,000 strong. He directs a staff of 359 military and civilian employees and manages a combined operations maintenance and TRICARE budget of $24.9 million.

Col Johnson entered the Air Force in 1982 after receiving his M.D. from the Uniform School of Health Science. He has served as flight surgeon, chief of aerospace medicine, chief of clinical medicine and director of medical services. He deployed to Southwest Asia in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm and served as a master instructor at the school of aerospace medicine. In 1999 he was selected for graduate program through the Armed Forces Institute of Technology, completing a master’s degree in Health Care Administration in 2001.
