Richard Clapp, MPH, D.Sc.

Dr. Clapp received his MPH degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1974. In the 1970's he worked in community and environmental health as Executive Director of the Lynn Community Health and Counseling Center and Director of the Massachusetts Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, in the Department of Public Health. In 1980, he was hired to establish the Massachusetts Cancer Registry, in the Department of Public Health. He served as Director until 1989, and during this time he completed his doctorate in Epidemiology and was awarded a D.Sc. Degree from B.U. School of Public Health in 1989.

For the past nine years, Dr. Clapp has worked at the JSI Center for Environmental Health Studies, first as its Director, and more recently as Consultant. He joined the B.U. School of Public Health Environmental Health Department as a full-time Faculty member in 1993. His research interests include the health effects of dioxin and Agent Orange, the health effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and other environmental exposures to toxic chemicals.
