January/February 2009. Congrats to Sam Ostrow who was recognized for his long service to the College and our class. Sam is the first 67 to receive the Dartmouth Alumni Award. Well done!! Sam sent news of the Annual 67 Not So Open Golf Tournament held at the Rhode Island Country Club, courtesy of Larry and Sharleen Bowen and Rich and Beth Paolino, members of the Club. The usual suspects (any team with Joe Alviani on it) won. Post golf dinner participants included the Bowens and Paolinos, Joe Alviani, Jack Curley, Bill Bogardus, Jon Feltner, John and Susan Manaras, Ted Neill, Steve and Maureen Cheheyl, Dave Larsen, Bill and Carol Adams. Sam was an honored overnight guest of the Bowens; he remarked Sharleen makes the best blueberry pancakes and bacon on earth! The Washington DC alumni gathering is being hosted by John Isaacs and Bob Burka at the law firm of Foley and Lardner LLP with about 20 projected to attend. Details to follow from John Isaacs. Tom Maremaa alerted me that his sixth novel, "Metal Heads," is forthcoming from Kunati Books, dealing with the experiences of Iraqi War veterans coming home. Tom has had a batch of short fiction and novellas published at Amazon.com. He is still working at Apple Inc. in Cupertino, California, writing software code and technical documentation in the Mac OS X software engineering group. The novel writing efforts come at night and over the weekends when his passion and energy are still going strong. The Wall Street Journal (Sept. 29) noted that James M. Peck, a U.S. bankruptcy judge in the Southern District of New York, finds himself overseeing the Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. bankruptcy. Howard Sharfstein (a former law firm partner of Judge Peck) was quoted as observing that Peck would certainly handle the many twists to come in the case.
