Nov/Dec, 2003. David T. Houston, Jr., president of Colliers Houston & Co. in Teaneck, NJ, received the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Industry Service Award. Dave is president-elect for the national Society of Office and Industrial Realtors and previously served as president of the NJ chapter. He is a director of NJ-NAIOP and has served as its treasurer. Dave earned an MBA in finance and accounting from Columbia Univ. in 1972 and served as an officer in the Navy. Frederic J. M. Cowan, Jr. announced he plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat for Kentucky. Fred practices law in Louisville and is the former Kentucky Attorney General. He served as state representative from 1982 to 1988, then Attorney General. Fred earned his J.D. from Harvard Univ. in 1978. Look for more on this political campaign. My studies and travels during my Fulbright scholarship in Germany were stimulating. The demographic challenges of more people living longer, retiring earlier, smaller families, fewer younger workers paying into the support programs, sluggish economy, and rising health care costs are not unique to Germany; selecting politically acceptable solutions is the hard choice.
