Bruce Pacht and the reunion committee did a superb job organizing the 40th reunion 
events. Almost 150 attended (94 classmates), the theme being "The Road Less Traveled"  celebrating 
how different a class we are. The Class adopted Nancy Smoyer, (Bill Smoyer's sister); she spoke of her 
memories at the memorial service. With threatening skies overhead at the 1967 Memorial Grove, 
classmates gathered while Sam Ostrow led the remembrances. Thunder clapped (Sam's eyes rolled); we 
were in the presence of the Almighty. Rabbi Gary Atkins came forward, took over, offered prayers, and 
continued the service; the sun emerged, calm was restored (apparently Gary knows the appropriate words).  
At the reception at the Hood Museum, we celebrated the Class 40th Reunion gift to the College, a 
permanent endowment of "A Space for Dialogue" at the entrance to The Hood. Sam presented a check in the 
amount of $212K (with John Kornet passing the hat to round up the numbers). Mike Tucker and Sam joined 
with Jacob Crumbine ('07) at the Bema starting the process of turning over stewardship of the Old Pine 
to the Class of 2007. At the class dinner in Alumni Hall, Sam presented President Wright several checks: 
$212K for Hood "Space for Dialogue," $402K for College Fund, and $3.4M overall to College since 2002.  
David Lowenstein's 20 years of service as Head Agent were celebrated. At the class meeting, the slate 
of class officers and executive board members were reelected for another five years. Our Class is well 
represented in College governance with John Manaras, Ron Lemberger, and Sam Ostrow all on the Alumni 
Council next year. Rick Geissinger provided the treasurer's report showing that we still have great 
financial strength even after Reunion costs and the donation to "A Space for Dialogue." The Class Dues 
check-off program was broadened to include three projects: rebuilding the Class Memorial Fund, 
supporting the Athletic Department's program to bring recruited athletes to Hanover for visits, and 
Dartmouth Partners in Community Service ($5k/year from Class). Look for more mini-reunions: Rich 
Paolino (22 Sept., Rhode Island country club); Steve Cheheyl (Boston, 26 Jan. 2008); ski trip with 
class of '68 (1 - 8 March 2008). Selected meals were provided at Thayer (before it is torn down).  
Bruce Pacht, Paul Killebrew, and John Wasson organized a final gathering in Lebanon at the Salt Hill
