January/February 2008. Nancy Smoyer writes about the dedication of the Whitey Burnham field next April. The field was donated by her father, Stan Smoyer '34, who asked that it be named after Whitey who coached David '63 and Bill '67. Whitey has remained a close and supportive friend of the Smoyer family. The dedication will take place April 19, 2008 with preliminary events on the 18th. The Smoyer family would love to share this tribute to Whitey with as many of his players and others as possible. Mini-reunions serve as regional meeting venues until our 45th. Sam Ostrow summarizes the Rhode Island mini-reunion. Really nice weather on the northeast Atlantic coast greeted Dartmouth '67’s intrepid golfers as they did noble battle with the Rhode Island Country Club in September; the course won. Hosted by Rich and Beth Paolino, the well established event was attended by John and Susan Manaras, Steve and Maureen Cheheyl, Tom and Lily Grove (flying in from Utah for the event), Jack and Mary Ellen Curley (returning from their home in St. Andrews, Scotland, where both of them obviously had been practicing their wind golf!), Ron Koback, Sam Ostrow, Bill Bogardus, Joe and Becky Alviani, Bill and Carol Adams, Ted Neill and Larry and Sharleen Bowen. Larry and Sharleen hosted a fabulous party at their home next to the course and overlooking Narragansett Bay, and arranged for one of life’s truly memorable sunsets, after which we enjoyed an excellent dinner, the usual great '67 conversation, and promised to make the event even bigger and better next year, which only more '67’s can make possible. An October mini-reunion in Washington was coordinated by John Isaacs. The Boston event is scheduled for January 26, 2008; John Manaras is the organizer. Details to come.
