April, 1998 News from '67 classmates over the holidays has been slow. Beirne and Joan Lovely commented that the reunion was wonderful seeing so many old friends and meeting new ones. Beirne went on that Michelle just graduated from UVM and Kristen (Middlebury '95) is teaching fourth grade in Milton, Massachusetts. Sons Dave and Greg are active in sports at Bowdoin. The Lovelys are finally enjoying the taste of an empty nest (subject to the presence of the cocker spaniel, Brandy); they recently completed a land and sea tour of Alaska. Also periodically see Jon Feltner (twin daughters now at Dartmouth) and Drew Ley (practicing real estate law in Beantown). Jock Gill wrote asking whether I remembered what the class gift to the College was back in '67? Jock answered his rhetorical question that it was a fund to study the conversion of the College to co-education. He is delighted at the changes since this is the 25th anniversary year of co-education at Dartmouth. This should entitle the Class of '67 to some bragging rights for the support of co-education. Jock is president of Penfield Gill, Incorporated (http://www.penfield-gill.com) which offered consultation in computer-mediated communications, marketing, and strategic planning with its offices in Boston. For my own news, I still teach with the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health Care Administration. In the graduate student research conference in December, one of my student groups won the best research presentation recognition (this has occurred several times now). Years ago, Professor Vic McGee remarked to my parents that I did not know much about the theoretical basis of research, but I could organize and put on good presentations. At reunion, I met with Professor McGee, expressed my thanks for his guidance and support, and promised to continue the tradition (and hopefully my students will continue it as well). Directing, challenging, and channeling motivated students is rewarding. The Great Class of '67 web page is available on the College homepage (http://www.dartmouth.edu/alumni/classes/67/), thanks to Sam Ostrow. It offers news of and from '67s, coming events, messages from Sam Ostrow (president), Jeff Zimmerman (treasurer), David Lowenstein and Bernie Goloboy (head agents), and an e-mail directory (a work in progress). Come visit and post your own news on the class of '67 web page. The College is actively searching for a successor for President Freedman who steps down from the Dartmouth presidency effective June 1998. Stay tuned for the latest developments. On a sad note, John W. Donovan of Winchester, Massachusetts passed away in October. John came to Dartmouth from the Belmont Hill School. He is survived by his son Christopher and Jean Braga. Since the Internet is affecting how business and communications are practiced, this column will frequently provide e-mail and URL addresses to expedite some forms of communications. Obviously, not everyone is (or even wants to be) connected to the world-wide web. For those resisting the movement, ask your kids to teach you (or your parents who may be using it to talk with the grandkids). Send any comments or photos; news is welcome in almost any medium. - Dave Mangelsdorff (3410 Turtle Village Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78230- 3918).
