TRAINING

He received his training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the University of Colorado, and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has been at the University of Texas Medical School-Houston, Department of Neurology since 1979.
CLINICAL INTERESTS His clinical research focuses on treatment of acute stroke. He and his staff have coordinated therapeutic trials of hemodilution, calcium antagonists, and most recently thrombolytic therapy (tPA). 
RESEARCH INTERESTS His basic research is exploring calcium metabolism and the effect of pharmacologic intervention after global and focal ischemia in small animal models.
