James G. Henderson (Ed.D., Stanford University, 1981) is Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Kent State University where he teaches courses on curriculum fundamentals, curriculum theory, interprofessional studies, and research ethics. Jim has been an active member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) since 1981, has chaired the "Critical Issues in Curriculum" Special Interest Group of this association, and recently served as chair of the "Curriculum Theorizing" Section for this association's annual conference and as co-editor of the "Mythopoetics of Curriculum Praxis" section of JCT: Journal of Curriculum Theorizing. He is currently treasurer for the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (AAACS).

Jim's research addresses four topics: teachers as curriculum decision makers, collaborative curriculum development, democratic curriculum judgment, and public intellectual leadership. He has individually or collaboratively published over forty essays and six books on these subjects. His book, Reflective Teaching: Professional Artistry through Inquiry, introduces the art of inquiry for democratic teaching. His co-authored book, Transformative Curriculum Leadership, provides guidance for curriculum practices centered on the complexities of democratic morality. He is currently working with a colleague on Curriculum Wisdom: Educational Decisions in Democratic Societies, which presents an understanding of curriculum as a democratic wisdom challenge. This book will be available in July 2003.  All of this research work has been adapted for a number of professional service activities in school districts in northeast Ohio.
