Staff Profiles
Mark Bamford is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. He is concentrating in housing law.
Bill Brainard has been a staff attorney with Merrimack Valley Legal Service since 1988. He is a generalist with a concentration in housing, benefits, and elder law. Bill is a member of the board of Massachusetts Law Reform Institute.
David Brown is a staff attorney in the Lawrence office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. He is concentrating in handling complex cases involving domestic violence and also housing law.
Carol Coyne, associate director, has been a legal services attorney for over 15 years and has worked with MVLS since 1992. She has practiced in many areas of law, and has a particular interest in consumer law and children's rights. She was graduated with honors from Fordham University and the George Washington University law school, and enjoys volunteer work teaching English as a second language to Spanish-speaking immigrants.
Myrta Cupeles works in the Lawrence of Merrimack Valley Legal Services as a Housing Paralegal. Bilingual in Spanish, Myrta has been with Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1983.
Britt Evangelist is a Jesuit Volunteer Intern. She is assisting in intake and advocating for clients in our Lowell office in the following areas of law: Housing, Family and Government Benefits.
Martina Figueroa has been the receptionist/intake worker for the Lowell office of MVLS since 1992. She lends her bilingual Spanish abilities for translations in the office.
Carmen Fox, bilingual in Spanish, has been the family law paralegal for MVLS since 1991. She previously worked in the Human Services profession for 13 years. Through her work at the Merrimack Valley Legal Services clinic in Lowell District Court, Carmen helps victims of domestic violence to get restraining orders, and advises them of their legal rights. She is actively involved in many community and statewide organizations including the Lowell City Manager's Task Force, Asian Task Force against Domestic Violence, Safety First program, Massachusetts Violence Prevention Team Roundtable, Teen Coalition, Healthy Life Skills (school program) and the Domestic Violence Prosecution Team. She is a Board member of the Acre Family Day Care. This year she was selected to participate at the MV Foundation for Women's Fund in California.
Jenny Giraldo has been the Lawrence office Receptionist/Intake Worker since 1988 and is bilingual in Spanish.
Dana Kandel is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She is concentrating in handling complex cases involving domestic violence.
Alcira Marin Kane is a government benefits paralegal in our Lawrence office and has been with Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1976. She is bilingual in Spanish. Alcira is actively involved in many community and statewide organizations including the Welfare Coalition, the Disability Coalition, the Employment Coalition, Linguistic Minorities Coalition, Community Day Care (Lawrence, MA), Community Day Charter School (Lawrence, MA), Hispano Network (Lawrence, MA), Family Service Association of Greater Lawrence, Department of Environmental Management (Lawrence, MA).
Alice Kleinhans is the Private Attorney Involvement Coordinator for Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1997. She has been a Staff Attorney with Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1981 concentrating in Elder Law. She has a B.A. from the University of Michigan; a Peace Corps. Volunteer 1969 - 1971; Case Western Reserve University Law School, J.D. 1975; Member Michigan Bar, Ohio Bar, Massachusetts Bar; and worked at the Legal Services of Eastern Michigan 12/75-7/80 as a Staff Attorney concentrating in Benefits, Consumer and Family Law;
Jennifer Kurrus has worked for MVLS as a staff attorney since 1982. She works part time, primarily in the Elder Law Project and also provides back up and support to the benefits and housing units. She has a generalist practice for elders, focusing on housing matters, benefits and social security law, bankruptcy, nursing home disputes, discrimination and individual rights. She graduated with honors from Boston University and Boston University School of Law.
Eugene Langner has been a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services since February of 2000. He concentrates in the area of housing law. Prior to February of 2000, he worked at legal aid offices in El Paso, Texas and Reno, Nevada. He has handled a wide variety of cases, with an emphasis on family law matters. He is a graduate of Williams College and Northeastern University School of Law.
Denice Lawrence has been a housing paralegal with Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1994, prior to that she was the Coordinator of the Private Attorney Involvement program with Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She had worked in Greater Boston Legal Services as a Paralegal in the Income Maintenance Unit from 1986-1988. She has a B.A. in Allied Legal Studies, University of Central Florida; Undergrad Studies, Human Services, Fitchburg State College.
Sunmin Lee is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She is concentrating in handling the low-income taxpayers clinic and handling complex cases involving domestic violence.
Ken MacIver is executive director of MVLS. Specialties: appellate litigation, civil procedure, special education, general civil practice. Member, Access to Justice Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Among other things, Ken has been a partner in the Boston firm Elder & MacIver, the Executive Director of Rhode Island Legal Services, the Regional Training Director for Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, Case Advocacy Director at Massachusetts Advocacy Center, and a Harvard Law School Clinical Instructor. He graduated from Boston University School of Law.
Karen Mahoney has been a government benefits paralegal in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services since 1987. Karen has an Associates Degree from Middlesex Community College in Criminal Justice.
Samnang Mam is an advocate in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. He is working with the Asian Community of Lowell in our Cambodian Outreach Project.
Ellen Matzouranis brings a total of 34 years work experience to our program. She has been with MVLS for 11 years and is presently working in the capacity as a Systems Specialist and an Elder Intake Worker. She has 13 years previous experience with court reporting transcription, plus approximately10 years combination of insurance/banking/real estate/legal secretary experience.
Trang Nguyen is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She is concentrating in elder, government benefits and housing law and also assists in the Cambodian Outreach Project of Merrimack Valley Legal Services.
Barbara Olin is the fiscal officer for Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She has been with Merrimack Valley Legal Services since it began as a Legal Services Program in 1975.
Vita Palazzolo is a family law staff attorney in the Lawrence office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She received her J.D. from Boston College Law School, and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Political Science and Spanish.
Alexander H. Pratt, Jr. is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. He is concentrating in special education and housing law.
Emily Samuels is a staff attorney in the Lowell office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She is concentrating in handling complex cases involving domestic violence.
Andrea Stark is a staff attorney in the Lawrence office of Merrimack Valley Legal Services. She is concentrating in government benefits and elder law.
Chris Wayne is the office manager and oversees operations in the Lowell and Lawrence offices. Among other things, Chris is responsible for troubleshooting computers, system operations, supplies and equipment. and website management. Chris also assists with PAI recruitment, referrals and administration.
Alice Wear is the Lowell Secretary/Systems Specialist of MVLS. She has been with this organization for many years.
