Span, a partner in the Los Angeles office of the international law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, specializes in complex business and employment litigation. He is a 1971 graduate of the Yale Law School, and received his AB Degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College in 1967. In his 30 years of practice, Mr. Span has represented a diverse group of clients, including the following representative sampling: An airline in a six-month arbitration ordered by President Clinton to resolve a nationwide flight attendant strike. A manufacturer in a case alleging trade secret misappropriation. A major oil company in breach of contract litigation against an electric utility. An insurance company in a class action alleging fraudulent sales practices. Sixteen domestic and international airlines in litigation concerning landing fee charges at Los Angeles International Airport. A bank in litigation arising from the financing and construction of geothermal power projects. A major oil company in antitrust litigation. A manufacturing company in two antitrust cases involving alleged group boycotts, and an automobile manufacturer in a class action alleging a retail price-fixing conspiracy. Mr. Span has had substantial experience in many areas of complex litigation, including antitrust, contract, employment, regulated industries, securities, intellectual property and unfair competition. Mr. Span is Vice President of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, a member of the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Association’s Antitrust and Unfair Competition Section, and a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Blue Ribbon Commission on the Superior Court. Mr. Span has served as President of the Santa Monica Bar Association, a Trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and President of the County Bar’s Dispute Resolution Services, Inc. He has also served as a small claims judge pro tem in the Santa Monica Superior and Municipal Courts.
