Dr. Thurer's clinical practice is limited to general thoracic surgery including surgery of the lung, mediastinum, pleura and esophagus. HIs primary interest is in lung cancer surgery and he is the Co-director of the BIDMC Thoracic Oncology Center. His research deals with the proper use of blood products in surgery including methods for autologous transfusion. Dr. Thurer is also involved in a number of clinical trials for patients with lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies.
