Gaius was born in Enfield, Connecticut on August 10, 1765. He married Mary or Polly Pease in 1785. In the Census of 1790, Gaius is listed in Enfield. His household consisted of seven persons; two males over sixteen, two males under sixteen, and three females. Since only two children appear to have been born prior to the census, there were probably relatives living with this family. Thehistory of Coos Count, New Hampshire, says Gaius Kibbe came the Columbia in 1797. His sister, Margaret (Kibbe) Parsons, and family were settled there. Later he is said to have moved to Bloomfield, Vermont. The date of the death of his wife is not known. He was married, second, on March 17, 1803, to Nancy Kidd, 1777-1840, daughter of Charles and Frances (Hamilton) Kidd. In 1814, this family moved to Buffalo, New York, and from there went to Louisiana. Here they settled in the Bayou Teche region of St. Mary Parish. Gaius died here on July 21, 1821; his widow died in 1840.
